Summer Teen Yoga Intensive: Stretch, Strive, Succeed, Shine — SPARK!

Join us for an experience like no other! SPARK is a 2-week summer intensive just for teens to move, learn, explore, grow — to truly come alive!!!

We will focus on Individual Expression, Authenticity, Self-trust, Empowerment — all delivered with a healthy dose of FUN. Here a just a few of the things you can look forward to…

  • Get into your body with Creative Movement, Yoga and Body/Mind Integration.
  • Focus your mind and connect to your Authentic Self through breathing exercises, visualizations and centering.
  • Gain skills to improve your communication with friends, family, teachers.
  • Explore and expand your personal possibilities with the support of your team leaders and peers!
  • Create new friendships and memories while gaining tools that can be used in all aspects of Life.

This is not just another summer camp. This is a unique experience to discover the truly amazing life that awaits you!

*SPARK! is open to ages 11-17
(ages 11-14 Group A, ages 15-17 Group B)

Summer Sessions:

June 4 – June 15 Mon – Fri 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM  (Registration deadline: May 21)

July 9 – 20 Mon – Fri 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM (Registration deadline: June 25)

10 Classes, $325; $100 non-refundable deposit required to hold space, balance due first day of class.

Jefferson Dollars for Scholars has listed SPARK! at Namasté of Metairie as a qualifying camp!  Students who have attended a Jefferson Parish Public School for at least one full year are eligible to have their full tuition for SPARK! paid — download full guidelines and application details from Jefferson Dollars for Scholars details here; you can download the application form to have signed by your principal here.

SPARK includes great activities every day: (Actual schedule structure may vary.)

Sample Day 1

2:30 – 2:45 Tribe Time; come in, get settled, mingle and chat with your friends and team leaders
2:45 – 3:45 Yoga
3:45 – 4:15 Discussion Topic: You Are What You Think; How your thoughts create your reality
4:15 – 4:30 Partner Exercise – Working with a partner to experience different ways of communication
4:30 – 4:45 Journaling; write down the repetitive negative thoughts you tell yourself and create a compassionate replacement for each one
4:45 – 5:00 Sharing circle
5:00 – 5:15 Centering; mentally review the day and find your personal highlights, bring the mind to quiet, prepare to transition out of class by taking a few moments for deep relaxation
5:15 – 5:30 Tribe time; share highlights and insights, set intention for the rest of the night

Sample Day 2

2:30 – 2:45 Tribe time; review the previous day’s topic, talk about how it went at home
2:45 – 3:00 Centering; cultivate awareness of breath, body, and mind
3:00 – 4:00 Discussion topic: Your Personal Potential – what is it that you want to be and do with this precious life RIGHT NOW? What are the things that hold you back? How can you live in authenticity with who you really are?
4:00 – 4:30 Partner Exercise; Finding Your Voice/Facing Your Fears
4:30 – 4:45 Vision Board planning; prepare for the next day’s Vision Board activity
4:45 – 5:20 Yoga
5:20 – 5:30 Tribe Time; wind down the day and prepare for transition home

 

Meet Your Team Leaders:

Susan Grady

Susan Grady, “Suz!” has been teaching, supporting, leading and inspiring others for many years. With strong roots in dance and musical theatre and having performed in seven countries in the Far East plus 47 of our 50 United States, Suz’s focus has now naturally shifted from the stage to the classroom where she feels she can make much more of a positive impact on others. She teaches with passion, devotion, and Love of her students and the message she shares, which pulls from traditions of yoga, dance, meditation, and all of the Great Teachers that have Blessed her life. A proud graduate of The University of Michigan (GO BLUE!), Suz cannot wait to share with you the excitement of learning to focus on and discover all of the POSSIBILITIES and GIFTS that lie within YOU!

Courtney McGuiness

 

 

Courtney McGuiness has learned that when you love what you do, nothing is really work. A dancer, yogi, health coach, and mentor, Courtney has been leading workshops, teaching classes, and empowering individuals for almost 10 years. Courtney guides her students with warmth and authenticity, encouraging a deep connection to self, present-moment awareness, and personal inquiry. She feels most passionate about working with teens, and strives to create a class experience that is creative, holistic, and light-hearted. Courtney is a certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor and has also studied yoga-dance fusion classes like Yoga Booty Ballet and Yoga Trance Dance. She is thrilled to team up with Suz to bring you this amazing program that will help you unlock all of your personal power, insight, intelligence, and joy!
